Did the plot of the new detective story hit too close to the truth? Did the victim step on someone's toes? Where is the butler when you need one and what kind of drink was that absinthe again?
A prominent Nordic publishing house Noiri & Sons is preparing for another successful year of crime and detective novels. Five novelists are invited to the company’s mansion to spend the weekend. It’s an old tradition, but this time something is very different. The company’s well liked ghost writer is found dead after the first night in the mansion, and the murder seems very familiar from one writer’s latest novel. Tuoni Studios presents a murder case diving deep into crime literature, and invites the guests to freely interrogate the suspect novelists. Can you tell fact from fiction?
Follow the action on stage and take notes if you like
Interview the authors and try to get them to share gossips and reveal secrets
Examine physical and digital evidence (we recommend bringing your smartphone)
Solve what happened to the promising debut novelist in the dark hours of the night
The duration of the program is about 2.5 hours
The show is in Finnish
HOW THE STORY GOES
In the program, four of the most popular and talented writers in their respective genres come down to their readers when the panel discussion arranged for them takes a dramatic turn. Guests have the opportunity to talk with the writers, ask for autographs, and examine the evidence, including the publisher's and the authors' backgrounds. The writers are professionals in crime literature, so the murder is probably planned with extreme precision, but by pulling the right strings and tying the ends together, the culprit can be found among the suspects.
VENUE AND EQUIPMENT
The show requires a stage or a large enough performance area. For the show, we need four chairs on stage and at least one table with five chairs for the evidence. It would be good also if each writer had a side table and a chair where they can be interviewed outside the stage. For groups larger than 50 people, a PA system is required (including either three handheld microphones OR one handheld and four headset microphones).
TIPS FOR THE SHOW
Parts of the show take place on the stage, but the suspects spend most of their time amongst the guests, and interviewing them is encouraged.
Each group of guests should have at least one smartphone in their disposal. Reading glasses might also come in handy. All the evidence is physical, excluding the writer’s and publisher’s backgrounds, which are digital only.
In Murder Mysteries, sharing information and cooperation are the keys to success, and by the end of the evening, each group form their own theories.
Tuoni Studios’ host is always available if questions arise or help is needed. They can also give you background information, or tips and tricks for solving the case.
